Cross country skiing is a great way to keep your quads in shape during the off season. It is also a great way to stretch out those taut hip flexors that have been getting compressed over the thousands of miles ridden this last race season. I have to say, it's also a nice change of scenery! The off season is as much about keeping your mind sharp and challenged as it is about keeping your body in tip top shape! It doesn't do your road season any good to be in top cycling condition in November. Instead focus on challenging different muscles and do some cross training. You won't want your body and mind to be fatigued and burnt out in July next season -especially if you have your eye on any regional or national championship races.
